Get the Lead Out
A single lead sinker can kill an adult loon. Trade in your lead tackle and protect the birds our lakes are known for.
Trade In Tackle at the AGMWhy it matters
Loons swallow small stones from the lake bottom to help grind their food, and lost lead sinkers and jigs are easily picked up along with them. Even a small amount of lead causes massive, fatal poisoning โ a terrible death for these legendary birds, and one that is entirely avoidable.
Switching to non-toxic alternatives โ steel, tin, tungsten or bismuth โ costs little and works just as well. Most tackle shops now stock lead-free options; just ask.
๐ฃ Get a FREE Limited Edition Custom Lure
Turn in your lead fishing weights or tackle at the association's tackle exchange, held at the Annual General Meeting (Haliburton Forest Presentation Building) โ and pick up a free custom lure while supplies last.
